I created the Ellison Roberts Ltd travel company in 2001 as a selfish act; I wanted to travel to parts of the world that interested and intrigued me and, I reckoned that if others would join me then my own costs would be less. And so it proved. In 2002 I was joined by seven others on a first exploration of Kerala in South India. We met in Kochi, journeyed up into the Cardamom Hills and then descended to the backwaters. It was a magical trip and five of those seven subsequently have travelled with me on three or four more trips to other parts of India and to Bhutan and Burma, and all are still friends.
In 2016 I re-branded as Redbird and focussed on travel consultancy and advice and special interest tour design. But the pandemic hit hard, and business fell away; in consequence I gave up my (expensive) ATOL bonding and so could no longer sell holidays.
Now we can travel again, and I have overcome the bonding issue by partnering with two fully bonded companies: No News No Shoes (ATOL), and Travel Safe Horbury (ATOL, IATA). Both companies have the ethos, the experience, and the resources to safely deliver the tours that we (you and I) create. So, Redbird is back, and the wide world awaits.
